What is sick leave?

If you should get sick during your studies to an extend to which you need to take some time away from your study programme, you can be granted sick leave. While on sick leave you are considered an active student, which means that you can study part time while you are sick. If you are too sick to study at all, you do not have to study, and you will thus be granted full time sick leave.

Important information

Who should you inform?

If you expect to be absent from your studies for a period of time due to illness, you have to notify your programme secretary and estimate how long you expect to be absent.

If you are unable to attend an examination due to illness, you must also notify your programme secretary of this, so that you can be deregistered for the exam and registered for reexamination at a later date. You will need to submit a doctor’s certificate that documents your illness and states the expected duration of your absence from your study programme.

Are you resuming your studies after a break?

If you have been gone from your studies for a while, e.g., due to leave of absence, illness or parental absence, it can be helpful to share your thoughts on, what it is like to be back. Therefore, we would like to remind you, that you can always write or book an appointment with the general student guidance, if you would like talk about your transition back to student life.
