At AAU, we have an ambition that you and your fellow students have the opportunity to be part of academic and social communities that help strengthen your well-being and commitment to your student life. But good communities do not come by themselves. It requires both courage to get involved, and strength to maintain the good cooperation and way of interacting. You are thus helping to create a good study environment at AAU.

- And that's why the Study Environment Day 2024 put the spotlight on communities in your student life!

What was on the program

Lector Pernille Scholdan Bertelsen and student Daniel Sejr Vitagliano from The Study Environment Group welcomed everyone. And then followed a campus tour, where all participants were introduced to the areas on campus where students have their own rooms or where there are special initiatives focused on the study environment.

The participants then split up into two different workshops with facilitators from The Student Counselling Service and DTU. One workshop was about the campus community and was hosted by Johann Daustrand, and the other was about collaboration in cross-cultural teams hosted by Trent Coelli. Popular and engaging workshops.

The day ended with delicious pizza and good times for the participants.

Workshops

At the Study Environment Day 2024 two workshops were held, where the participants could gain insight and contribute to making Campus an even better place to be.

Workshop 1: Campus community - what do we need when somthing common needs to be created? (in Danish)

What are some of the factors that challenge many students' engagement in the study environment? How can we work with them together? And how do you and we create the best possible study environment for you and your fellow students?

At the workshop, the participants got presented with a range of understandings of what is at stake for many students when you have to settle into your study programme. By understanding what can be stressful for the student community, we can then find solutions for what is needed from various approaches to make it easier to become part of the community.

Workshop 3: Collaboration in diverse, cross-cultural teams (in English)

Have you ever been part of a team where cultural differences led to miscommunication and misunderstandings? Have you ever been frustrated with your culturally diverse team because they don't contribute or simply don't seem to listen to you?

In this workshop the participates gained insight into the general cultural differences that play a role in cross-cultural collaboration. The participants learned to understand their own cultural baggage, how to switch off their own cultural "lenses", and they got the tools one and the team need to improve the cross-cultural teamwork.
