Job search in Denmark when you have a functional impairment

Job search in Denmark when you have a functional impairment

Some students tend to overthink their difficulties when they are job searching. But in Denmark, it is rarely about diagnoses. Employers focus on whether you can do the tasks in the job.
Your skills, experience and motivation are at the centre – your functional impairment is usually not the defining factor.
Functional impairments can affect the job search in different ways
Functional impairments can look very different, and they may have an impact at different stages of the job search process.
For some people, the functional impairment is visible, while for others it only becomes apparent in everyday work situations. This is why there is no single “right” way to handle a functional variation when applying for jobs. What matters is not what you choose to share, but how you take your own situation into account in relation to the tasks the job involves.
Important: If you received SPS (Special Educational Support) during your studies, you must inform the job centre or your unemployment insurance fund (a-kasse) yourself when you graduate. This information is not transferred automatically, and they can only guide you once you reach out.
The Danish Anti-Discrimination Act
The Anti-Discrimination Act protects you from unfair treatment in the labour market – in the application process, at the interview and when you are employed. Employers must assess you based on your qualifications, not your functional impairment.
