Cinematronic

Cinematronic has developed a biosensor that can be used in connection with test screenings of media productions. The sensor provides a better insight into the users' experience, because it registers how the users are affected by and interact with the media without them being aware of it. Cinematronic consists of four AAU graduates with different profiles and skills: Anders Godsk, who studied Interactive Digital Media; Rozalia Godsk, who studied International Relations; Philipp Wirtz, who studied Biomedical Engineering and Informatics and Alexandru N., who studied Information Architecture.

What challenge or problem are you trying to solve with your idea/startup?

"Cinematronic offers a unique biosensor-based solution for quality assurance of film trailers, among other things, which enables producers and directors to create the best possible viewing experiences. Media production companies invest a lot of time and money in creating high-quality productions, but quality assurance of the user experience usually happens only at the end of production, when most financial and creative resources are already exhausted. With our solution, which is used as part of the research design during the creative process, we can give media producers a better management tool for the use of the creative resources as well as significantly increase user insight in their target group." Alexandru Nedelcu, Co-Founder, Cinematronic

Cinematronic creates test and analysis projects for customers and partners in the Danish media market within both TV and film production, including DR (Denmarks Radio) and the film schools Super 8 and Super 16. During a viewing test, respondents wear a biosensor bracelet that measures a number of biological indicators for the degree of their interest in what they see. In addition, we conduct interviews with the respondents, which, together with the biometric data analysis, give a more real picture of their viewing experience." What does the AAU Startup Grant mean for your startup's development right now?

"We will use the AAU Startup Grant to create a more sustainable and scalable licensing business model. Specifically, we are developing a software platform that supports that measurements can be carried out by the respondents themselves in their own homes. A digital solution will both save resources in relation to carrying out tests and ensure that we can offer our customers internationally composed respondent panels. We aim to create a business model where we sell the license for the software and create access to home respondents." Alexandru Nedelcu, Co-Founder, Cinematronic

What made you apply for the AAU Startup Program/ seek out entrepreneurship as graduates?

"I have always had the desire to create something new. Based on an idea from my bachelor's project on the Information Architecture course at AAU, I was in the 9th semester doing an internship in my own game startup, InkToPixels. It was the internship that started my process towards becoming an entrepreneur, so I am grateful that the program allowed the internship as part of my education.

While working on my thesis project, I simultaneously participated in the AAU Startup Program, where I continued the development of my game startup. My thesis topic was based on Challenge-Driven Motivation in Video Games."

I was interested in finding out what motivates people to play challenging games. What makes them continue even when the game frustrates them? I used that knowledge in my game startup to create games that people want to play.

Alexandru Nedelcu

"Along the way, I have received support from my internship and thesis supervisors (David Jakobsen and Christian Grund) and received sparring from the business supervisors within the AAU Startup Program.

Today, I use knowledge and experience from both my education and my first startup in my role as software developer and co-founder at Cinematronic. The technology we create at Cinematronic provides an even deeper insight into users, so media producers can create productions that their target audience actually wants to see."
