German Summer School – August 2026

In August 2026, Aalborg University offers a German Summer School for students in semesters 2–10 who wish to improve their German language skills. This course is ideal if you are considering an internship in Germany, Switzerland, or Austria; planning to collaborate with German-speaking companies or organisations as part of a study project; or intending to seek employment in a German-speaking country after graduation.

The Summer School will take place from 17–21 August 2026 at Kroghstræde 1, 9220 Aalborg Øst. The programme consists of five days of teaching, with six hours of instruction per day.

Teaching will be conducted by Associate Professor Mirjam Gebauer.

Admission Requirements

To participate, you must have studied German at upper secondary (high school) level or have passed an intensive German language course at AAU in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or spring 2026.

Content

  • oral exercises in vocabulary in German – including every day and professional language based on the participants’ needs
  • communication training in German – small talk, professional dialogues, and discussion
  • knowledge of German pronunciation and pronunciation exercises
  • training in presentation techniques in German
  • basic German grammar as needed
  • cultural understanding – German organizational and meeting culture, including addressing (Sie / Du). 

Application

Please apply no later than 15 June by completing the application form (first come, first served).

The Summer School requires a minimum of 10 participants and has a maximum capacity of 45 students. You will receive notification of admission no later than 25 June.

Further Information

Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate. To qualify, you must actively participate in at least 80% of the classes.

The Summer School is free of charge.

Please note that the course is non-ECTS awarding.

 

German courses in the spring semester 2026 (the courses have been completed)

This spring 2026 we offer the following courses for students 2-10 semester at campus Aalborg:

German Intensive Language course (oral - two levels)

  • Introduction to culture, history, and traditions of German-speaking countries
  • Knowledge of German pronunciation and exercises
  • Oral vocabulary exercises (amongst others specialized language according to the needs of the participants)
  • Conversation skills training (everyday conversations and small talk, academic discussions and argumentation)
  • Training in professional presentation techniques
  • Knowledge of the German employment market and organizational culture
  • If necessary, assistance in the contact with relevant German-speaking internships or study places and the possibility of support during exchange, study trips and internships.

The teachers are senior researchers from Aalborg University.

Admission requirements

Primary school exam of 9th grade in German language or equivalent, e.g. passed exam in a German intensive language course at AAU 2022, 2023 or 2024. Students will be divided into two classes based on their previous knowledge of German.

1st semester students cannot participate but will get the chance in the fall semester 2025.

Cost, course start and place

The courses are free of charge and will start 24th of February 2025 or 26th of February  (week 9) and run for 8 Tuesdays og Thursdays from 18.15 to 20.00 and in the weekend 14th-15th March or 21st-22nd March from 09.00 to 15.00.

Each student can only sign up for one course each semester, but it will be possible to sign up for another course in the fall semester 2026.

Please apply no later than 30rd January by filling in the application form below (first come – first served). 

40 students will be admitted for each of the courses on the basis of their German competencies.
