It wasn’t solely his great enthusiasm and professional competencies that landed Ubaid’s first a student job and, immediately after graduation, a full-time job. As a new student at AAU, he had participated in a career programme which gave him network and valuable insights into what Danish employers are looking for. That came in handy.

‘There’s lot more to AAU than just studying and research,’ Ubaid says about all the possibilities you have as a student at AAU.

‘AAU organises non-academic and academic events, assists with the accommodation, and encourages to join different organisations, groups and programmes. I joined one such program called Young Professionals in Denmark (YPD). It helped me  gain skills, expand my network through career guidance and various events, company visits and workshops’.

All the events at AAU were unique and splendid and helped me grow.

Having an awesome student job and having fun in the spare time

Using the learnings, he had achieved through career guidance and the programme, Ubaid even managed to land a student job:

‘AAU further helped me get a student job, as the job opening was shared with AAU students only. From the programme, I had knowledge on how to make a good application, and this paid off in the job search process. Hence, I could support myself during my studies while gaining industrial experience in a Danish work environment, working as a Student Assistant.’

Ubaid also emphasises the importance of recharging your batteries by having fun in your spare time:

'Besides my studies, I spend my spare time experiencing various activities and hobbies such as playing football and FIFA eSports. Since I am passionate about new cultures, I joined a local theatre club, board game club and later running and skating clubs, all of which were fun learning experiences’.

Ubaid is also proud to have participated in the making of a video about studying in Denmark:

Ubaid used project-based learning to tailor his education

All in all, Ubaid is very happy about his choice to go to Denmark and specifically study at AAU because of its problem-based learning:

‘Starting my Master’s at AAU, in a world-class environment, I seamlessly fitted into its unique PBL system,’ Ubaid says.

I took full advantage of project-based learning where I could tailor my education according to my interests and desires. I was able to choose the projects of my preference, adjusted to my difficulty level, making the whole process flexible and gratifying.

‘I feel like I have flourished so much as a person during my time at AAU, and of course academically while landing a job as a Research Assistant at AAU itself immediately after graduating’.

Ubaid’s 2 tips for you:

Take advantage of all the offers for international students

E.g. apply for programmes such as YPD, attend events and book career guidance.

  2. 2
