More and more companies become global. As a result, there is an increasing demand for graduates who can meet the challenges that come with globalisation, and who can develop and execute development strategies in an international perspective. Studying Operations and Innovation Management, you will be prepared to meet the challenges of the future.

Companies are increasingly experiencing new challenges and opportunities stemming from technological development, globalization of production and innovative activities and sustainability requirements.  The education in operations and innovations management zooms in on these new challenges. The education gives you the technical and managerial competencies that allow you to play a central role in modern global companies.

The focus is on operations and innovation management in the context of the global company but it is possible to pay attention to sustainability. You can work with many different themes during the education. The education is unique by having a strong integration of operations and innovation management and sustainability.

Working with contemporary issues

Through the unique project based learning model practiced at Aalborg University, you will have the opportunity to work with external companies and organisations in your projects. In this way, you develop your analytical competences in combination with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems. Thus, the projects are great opportunities to try out your ideas and knowledge in a real-life situation.

This is a full-time study programme, which is characterised by problem based project work in groups. You will be working closely with other students most of the time, and you are required to be present at the university on a daily basis and spend a vast majority of your day there.

After graduation, you can begin your career as lean consultant, supply chain developer, manager of global outsourcing projects, social compliance consultant or similar. As a graduate from the Global Management on the Master’s programme in Operations and Innovation Management you can be employed in management positions. You can also be a specialist, an analyst or a consultant – just to mention a few possibilities.

Academic content

Operations and Innovation Management is a two-year Master's programme that combines lectures and project work.

You will work with the connections between technology, innovation, operations and value chain management. You will obtain technological tools that enable you to operate, develop and implement systems, processes and value chains in a global context.

You will learn about for example:

  • Operations management and strategy
  • Productivity improvement
  • Management of Outsourcing and Offshoring
  • Sustainability in global value chains
  • Technology development and Innovation management
  • Organization of global value chains and business processes
  • Design, improvement and operation of global value chains and business processes

On the first and second semester you will spend half of your study time on courses and course work while the other half of your time will be spent doing a semester project. Each semester has an overall theme and within this theme, you conduct a semester project with your project group, where you investigate and attempt to solve a relevant issue within your field of study. You are encouraged to carry out one or more semester projects in collaboration with external companies and organisations. This gives you an exceptional opportunity to combine theory and practice.

The study programmes at AAU are based on problem based learning and project work, which give you a unique opportunity to acquire new knowledge and competences at a high academic level in an independent manner. You get to apply theory to practice in your semester projects, which will prepare you better for your future career.

Job and career

As a graduate from the Master’s programme in Operations and Innovation Management you can be employed in management positions, where you work with business systems, technical systems and how these two are connected and can be developed and strengthened.
