Manufacturing and Operations Engineering

Currently enrolled students continue the programme as planned.

Tablets, 3D movies, music services, and online stores are all results of good ideas. But a good idea is not enough; you must also be able to produce it. Therefore, behind every new product or service lies an innovative and creative process of development and production where engineers, designers, and product developers cooperate closely. They make sure that the functionality is first class, that everything works and looks like it is supposed to, and that the price is right.

Manufacturing and Operations Engineering is a three-year Bachelor’s programme at AAU CPH, where you will learn how to produce a product or a service, and you will gain useful insight into relevant technology and management tools.

To realise and produce a good idea or concept with modern technologies is an interdisciplinary task, where classic educations like mechanical engineering or computer science will only cover about half of the relevant topics.

A manufacturing and operations engineer has insight into aspects such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, management and business administration, and even aspects like product design and innovation. This means that, during the Bachelor’s programme in Manufacturing and Operations Engineering, you will explore for example:

  • materials
  • robotics
  • cloud computing
  • service-oriented architectures
  • data-mining
  • general programming
  • project management
  • process management
  • supply chain management
  • virtualisation

You will work with programming as a way of learning to optimise processes because programming is one of the most important skills within manufacturing and operations engineering. Your work with programming will include PLC (Programable Logic Controller), automation and robot technology.

In order to work on a managing level as well as on a technological level, once you finish your education, you will learn to communicate with product designers, and translate their wishes into technological solutions as well as guide the product designers towards design solutions that can be produced efficiently.

This Bachelor’s programme collaborates with external companies, which means that you will have opportunity to do your semester projects in collaboration with these companies and gain some real-life, hands-on experiences while you are studying.

This is a full-time study programme, which is characterised by problem based project work in groups. You will be working closely with other students most of the time, and you are required to be present at the university on a daily basis and spend most of your day there.

The Bachelor’s programme entitles you to the designation Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Engineering (Manufacturing and Operations Engineering).

Is your level in mathematics sufficient?

Mathematics is an essential tool in the Manufacturing and Operations Engineering programme. We strongly advice that you have an above average grade in mathematics when applying for this programme. If you have doubts regarding your qualifications, please contact our student guidance counsellors.

as a student at aau you encounter …

PROBLEM based learning (PBL)

Aalborg University is famous for its problem based learning where you work in a team on a large written assignment often collaborating with an industrial partner. This study method is also called “The Aalborg Model for Problem Based Learning”. The method is highly recognised internationally, and the university is host to a successful UNESCO chair in Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education and a Centre for PBL and Sustainability approved by UNESCO.

The problem based project work at Aalborg University gives you a unique opportunity to acquire new knowledge and competences at a high academic level in an independent manner. You get to apply theory to practice when you work to solve real-life problems, and you will be well prepared for your future career. Learn more about PBL.

When doing project work, you work closely in groups with other students. This gives you the opportunity to cooperate, share knowledge and to explore larger and more complex academic problems than what you would have been able to do on your own. Furthermore, the groups serve a social purpose and make it easier for you to get to know your fellow students and feel more at home at the university. Learn more about teamwork at AAU.

Aalborg University works closely with the business community. This means that as a student you will work with real issues from companies and organisations. Thus, while you are studying, you already have the opportunity to enhance your academic competences with a business-oriented and practical angle.

At Aalborg University teaching is research based. This means that your lecturers are doing research within the same academic field as he or she is teaching. You thus have access to the latest knowledge and dedicated teachers who are passionate about what they teach. The teaching material not only includes books but may also consist of, for example, current academic articles from journals.

The laboratories at Aalborg University are of the highest standard, and they play an important role in teaching. You will work under the best laboratory conditions with access to the latest technology, which is vital for your benefiting from the teaching.

Studying in Copenhagen

AAU Copenhagen is a part of Aalborg University and is located at Sydhavnen (South Harbour) near the city centre. Therefore, students at AAU CPH have access to the city’s wide range of cultural and leisure activities. AAU CPH is a relatively new campus with an international focus, an innovative learning environment and close collaborations with businesses, of which many are located on the campus area. Overall there are close to 3,700 students enrolled in AAU CPH’s exciting bachelor’s and master’s programmes. Learn more about student life in Copenhagen.

Aalborg University is rated for excellence in the QS-ranking system. Aalborg University has received five stars certifying the world-class position of the university based on cutting-edge facilities and internationally renowned research and teaching faculty.
Within Engineering and Technology, Aalborg University ranked as number 76 in 2015/2016.
