You will get in touch with the job centre, if you do not have a job right after graduation. It is perfectly normal that it takes a little while before new graduates find their first job.
Together with you, a consultant from the job centre will work towards making sure that your time as unemployed will be as short as possible. This happens through meetings, workshops, and perhaps subsidy schemes such as job training or ”wage subsidy jobs”.
How is the process?
A typical line of events at the job centre looks like this:
- You pass your last exam
- You registre at the job centre – no later than your first day of unemployment
- You update and upload your CV to jobnet.dk as soon as possible and no later than after 2 weeks of unemployment
- You are in contact with the job centre on a regular basis
- You participate in events and make use of “internships” and wage subsidies in your job search
- You have found a job and deregister from the job centre
On Jobnet, be aware of:
- CV: When you registre at Jobnet.dk, you’ll have to fill in an online cv as one of the first things you’ll be asked to do.
- ”My page” (Min Side): You have to check for job suggestions regularly, and minimum once a week.
- Joblog: Here you have to registre your job search activities.
- ”My Plan” (Min Plan): Here you can see the agreements you’ve made with the job centre.
In addition, you have to register sick days, holidays, etc. on Jobnet.dk
How often do I have to show up at the job centre?
During the first 6 months of unemployment you will meet with a consultant 6 times. You may to invite your unemployment insurance fund (A-kasse) for 2 of the 6 meetings. Afterwards, you will meet with a consultant every 3 months.
I'm a non-EU citizen - what do I need to be aware of?
There can be other rules for non-EU citizens about whether you have the opportunity to work in Denmark and get help when you have finished your degree.
This can depend on your:
- Right to receive dependents
- Residence permit
- Work permit
- Ability to self-support, etc.
You always have the right to go to the job center to receive guidance in order to clarify your possibilities as a job seeker.
For some, it is possible to be eligible to receive job training (“virksomhedspraktik”), courses or other relevant programmes, whereas others do not have that opportunity and have to use the help provided by WorkinDenmark or International house Aalborg. Your local job centre can help clarify this for you.
